Another glorious day in paradise. Sunshine and blue skies with just a soft gentle breeze.
The lake is calm; just perfect for a slow ride around the lake to enjoy the sunset.
Flooding: We are very fortunate to have good high water levels but no flooding on Brereton Lake.
Our thoughts are with those up along the Winnipeg River system that are effected by flooding waters; and to those in Western Manitoba battling the rising Assiniboine.
Last night we went up to Rainbow Falls and caught this guy posing. He kept his wings spread like this for quite a long time ( 15min at least). He would move his head this way and that but otherwise kept the same position. ....strange......but cute!
Have a great day all!
HAPPY CANADA DAY!.
Hope you are all having a great holiday weekend.
I have been having a very pleasant day visiting with the guests and tonight we will enjoying a light show put on by the firefly and vocals by the frogs croaking in the river. A perfect way to Celebrate our Country.
The Dragon Flies have arrived in all their spender. This one was just waking up on a flowers in the bed in front of the office. They are now out in full force protecting us from the mosquitoes.
This caterpillar is one I have never seen before. If you look closely the long white hairs come out of round white dots. I did not touch them but they resemble porcupine quills; so I wonder if they are a form of protection.
Fishing is still really good. Kinda nice- this week a first time fisher person caught his first fish right out in front of the resort, from one of the peddle boats
The wildflowers are everywhere. These lady slippers are just along #307. On the way out to the Park keep a look out for the Showie Lady slippers along #15
Middle of June the turtles are nesting all through the Whiteshell. This Common Snapping Turtle return every year to nest in the same spot or as close as possible to where they took their first breath. Generation after generation! When I did a seach I learned Snapping Turtles can live from 30-40 years.
This morning there was one laying her eggs in the bank of the river right across from our office.
It is common to see them nesting on our resort property... both the painted and the snapping tuttles.
I did not go close as I did not want to disturb her but my camera let me get some nice close ups shots.
( Can you see that a fly landed on her nose)
I was telling guests that there is one female that has come every year we have been here. She makes her nest right on the side of the road by Cottage #7. We are always so nervous that a cars driving by might hit her
One year the guests in #7 set up chairs and sat with her all the time she was laying... the cars just went around. Turtles are such amazing creatures.
It's a beautiful time of year.
We still have openings in July and August. Hope you can join us!
